According to Ibrahim Hussaini, Public Relations Officer of the Niger State Emergency Management Agency (NSEMA), the explosion occurred when a tanker transporting Premium Motor Spirit (PMS) lost control on a poorly maintained road, causing fuel to spill into a nearby stream where farmers were tending to their rice fields.
The spilled fuel ignited a fire that rapidly spread back to the tanker, resulting in a massive explosion. The inferno not only claimed seven lives but also devastated the farmland, destroying the entire rice field along with fruits and vegetation. The deceased have been identified as Rafiatu Sahabi, Ramlat Shehu, Rashida Abdullahi Raliya, Abdulrahaman, Zainab Ahmed, Zuwaira Idrisu, and Maryam A. Nura.
Furthermore, Maimuna Isah, one of the injured farmers, is currently receiving medical treatment at Saho Rami Primary Health Care. The NSEMA continues to assess the situation and provide necessary support.
