On March 5, Foreign Minister Nasser Bourita and Saudi Foreign Minister Prince Faisal bin Farhan bin Abdullah co-chaired the 14th session of the Moroccan-Saudi Joint Commission in Mecca. The meeting concluded with Riyadh reiterating its steadfast support for Morocco’s territorial integrity and the assertion of Moroccan identity over the Sahara. They emphasized that the autonomy initiative represents the sole viable resolution to the ongoing regional conflict, as reported by MAP.
Saudi Arabia’s affirmation of Morocco’s position regarding the Sahara occurred the day after a meeting in Cairo between Prince Faisal bin Farhan and Algerian Foreign Minister Ahmed Attaf. Additionally, on the same day, Salah Goudjil, President of Algeria’s Upper House, held discussions with the Saudi ambassador in Algiers, highlighting the ongoing diplomatic engagements in the region.
During the joint commission, Saudi Arabia also recognized the efforts of King Mohammed VI in his role as President of the Committee for the Defense of Al-Quds Acharif, emphasizing the importance of maintaining the city’s identity as a beacon of tolerance among religions. Furthermore, the Kingdom praised the Sovereign’s initiatives supporting the residents of Al-Quds through various humanitarian and social projects facilitated by the Bayt Mal Al-Quds Acharif Agency.
