During a session at Chatham House in London, External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar advocated for the unification of Kashmir. He asserted that the Kashmir conflict has largely been resolved, with India now anticipating Pakistan’s return of what he referred to as the “stolen part” of the territory. Jaishankar emphasized that India’s efforts began with the abrogation of Article 370, facilitating progress toward resolution.
Jaishankar outlined a three-step approach: first, the removal of Article 370; second, the restoration of growth, economic activity, and social justice in Kashmir; and third, conducting elections that saw high voter turnout. Regarding U.S. tariffs with the new Republican administration, Jaishankar noted ongoing discussions led by Commerce Minister Piyush Goyal, resulting from talks between Prime Minister Narendra Modi and President Trump. He affirmed an agreement on pursuing a bilateral trade deal, highlighting the need for open dialogue on these critical economic matters.
