On March 6, Army Chief General Waker-Uz-Zaman returned to Bangladesh after being awarded an honorary presidential title during his visit to the Central African Republic (CAR). This visit, initiated on March 3, allowed him to evaluate Bangladeshi contingents and peacekeeping operations under the UN mission in Central Africa, where he provided essential strategic guidance.
During his visit, General Waker-Uz-Zaman held discussions with UN Special Representative Valentine Rugwabiza and Force Commander Lt Gen Humphrey Nyone, addressing crucial matters affecting Bangladesh’s peacekeepers. Additionally, he engaged in bilateral talks with the Chief of Central African Armed Forces General Mamadou Zephirin, concentrating on enhancing military cooperation, and met with CAR President Faustin-Archange Touadéra.
Together with President Touadéra, General Waker inaugurated the Touadéra Community Clinic, a project developed by the Bangladesh Army to assist local civilians as part of the peacekeeping initiative. His efforts, especially in healthcare, prompted President Touadéra to grant him the honorary title, acknowledging his significant contribution to CAR’s development.
