Represented by the Interethnic Association for the Development of the Peruvian Rainforest (AIDESEP), they argued these projects also threaten uncontacted Indigenous groups and have specific adverse impacts on Indigenous women. In response to these concerns, the Inter-American Commission on Human Rights has requested written clarification from the Peruvian government about its protocols regarding oil spills and support for impacted communities, highlighting documented reports of 831 oil spills in the Amazon. Furthermore, the presence of uncontacted tribes, such as the Mashco-Piro, is endangered due to violations of their territory by logging activities, worsening their precarious situation.
Teresa Mayo, a Peru researcher for Survival International, articulated that Indigenous organizations have resorted to international platforms due to insufficient legal recourse in Peru, seeking enforcement of international laws and treaties that the country has signed.
