Xoese Ghana has celebrated the birth of its first baby through the Xoese Fertility and Maternal Support Project. Xoese Ghana, a non-governmental organization dedicated to supporting women facing fertility challenges, proudly announces the birth of its first baby through the Xoese Fertility and Maternal Support Project (Xoese FMS). The baby boy was born at a health facility in Tema on February 21, 2025, after the mother received fertility treatment assistance that commenced in 2024. This milestone represents a considerable success for Xoese Ghana, which aims to eliminate the stigma surrounding infertility in the country.
Healthcare professionals reported that both the mother and child were healthy both during the antenatal period and at childbirth, allowing for their discharge a day after delivery. The Executive Director of Xoese Ghana, Ms. Emelia Naa Ayeley Aryee, detailed the case of the mother, who had struggled for three years to conceive, ultimately finding assistance with Xoese Ghana’s services after reaching out in April 2024.
The organization identified the underlying issue through a pelvic scan and promptly initiated treatment. Ms. Aryee noted, “With Madam Millicent, her issues became apparent with the first pelvic scan. She began treatment the same day, which was to last for two weeks…” After the successful treatment, Millicent reported a pregnancy in June, marking a significant achievement for the project’s mission to support women’s fertility journeys.
Launched in February 2024, the Xoese FMS Project aims to provide comprehensive medical assistance to women and couples struggling with infertility. This initiative arose from observations made during Xoese Ghana’s inaugural event, which revealed the pressing need for fertility-related support. The program fosters partnerships with fertility facilities to offer various diagnostic services at discounted rates to beneficiaries.
Dr. Samuel Gyedu Owusu, Board Chairman of Xoese Ghana, oversees case management, referring women to partner fertility centers as needed. Over 30 women have already benefited from this initiative. In collaboration with pharmaceutical companies, Xoese Ghana has also provided essential supplements to healthcare facilities, assisting in the treatment of anemia among pregnant women. Ms. Aryee expressed intentions to expand the project to other regions of Ghana soon, stressing its commitment to education on fertility issues through various outreach programs.
