Türkiye has expressed distress over the ongoing conflict in Sudan, calling for an immediate ceasefire to mitigate the humanitarian crisis. The conflict has resulted in significant casualties and displacement, with growing international concerns regarding the deteriorating situation. Türkiye remains committed to supporting efforts aimed at restoring peace and stability in Sudan.
On Saturday, Türkiye expressed deep concern regarding the ongoing conflict in Sudan, emphasizing the need for a ceasefire to alleviate the escalating humanitarian crisis. Turkish Foreign Ministry spokesperson Oncu Keceli stated, “We are deeply saddened by the ongoing escalation of the conflict in Sudan and the worsening humanitarian situation. We once again call on the parties for a ceasefire and peace to prevent further bloodshed.” He also highlighted the need to protect Sudan’s unity, sovereignty, and territorial integrity.
Keceli reaffirmed Türkiye’s readiness to assist in promptly resolving the conflict while prioritizing the establishment of peace, security, and stability in Sudan, underscoring the strength of the bilateral relationship. The conflict, which has persisted since mid-April 2023 between the Sudanese army and the paramilitary Rapid Support Forces, has resulted in over 20,000 fatalities and displaced approximately 14 million individuals, according to United Nations and local estimates.
The situation in Sudan remains dire, with escalating violence prompting international calls for a ceasefire. Türkiye’s government has reiterated its support for peace efforts while recognizing the urgent humanitarian needs. As the conflict spreads and affects millions, global stakeholders are increasingly urged to take decisive action to end the violence and provide humanitarian assistance to those affected.
