During the historic first official visit of the Kazakh Foreign Minister, Murat Nurtleu, to Morocco, discussions on enhancing bilateral relations were held at the invitation of his Moroccan counterpart, Nasser Bourita. The agenda focused on boosting political dialogue, trade, economic ties, and cultural exchanges, with both nations expressing a commitment to expand cooperation in various sectors, including energy, agriculture, and digital technology.
The meeting highlighted a remarkable 70% increase in trade turnover, amounting to $274 million, with Kazakhstan poised to boost exports of high-value products to Morocco. Minister Nurtleu announced the forthcoming visa-free regime, positioning Morocco as the first African nation to establish such an agreement with Kazakhstan, facilitating business growth and citizen interactions.
Attention was also given to food security, with the Kazakh Foreign Minister acknowledging Morocco’s involvement in the Islamic Organization for Food Security. The discussions encompassed the upcoming Astana International Forum and the 8th Congress of Leaders of World and Traditional Religions, where Kazakhstan seeks the active participation of Morocco.
Digitalization was identified as a key area of potential collaboration, particularly under Morocco’s “Digital Morocco 2030” initiative. Kazakh IT companies expressed readiness to engage in pilot projects in e-government and cybersecurity. Furthermore, cultural ties were reinforced through successful joint performances, showcasing mutual interest in the arts.
Tourism potential was recognized, with both parties agreeing to finalize an air communication Agreement by 2025 to explore direct flight options. Following the talks, both nations committed to reinforcing their political, economic, and humanitarian relations and established working groups to further cooperation in crucial sectors. Minister Nurtleu concluded his visit with a ceremonial wreath-laying at the Mausoleum of Sultan Mohammed V, honoring Moroccan history.
