Oman Urges Action on Palestinian Rights at the Human Rights Council

Oman criticized the High Commissioner for Human Rights’ report on Palestinian territories, emphasizing the need for adherence to human rights standards. The country urged for the unconditional withdrawal of occupying forces from Gaza and rejected any attempts to undermine Palestinian rights, highlighting the imbalanced nature of the report and calling for stronger international action.

The Sultanate of Oman has expressed strong criticism regarding the High Commissioner for Human Rights’ report on the occupied Palestinian territories, stressing the need for compliance with established human rights standards. Oman called for unconditional withdrawal of occupying forces from Gaza and rejected any attempts to undermine the legitimate rights of the Palestinian people.

During the 58th session of the Human Rights Council, His Excellency Ambassador Idris bin Abdulrahman Al-Khanjari, Oman’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations in Geneva, acknowledged the report’s findings. However, he contended that they inadequately represented the severe suffering experienced by Gaza’s residents, emphasizing the pressures faced by organizations like UNRWA.

His Excellency criticized the report for its imbalance, stating it failed to adequately address the disparity between the harm suffered by Palestinians and the destruction caused by Israeli actions in Gaza. He noted that it is unacceptable for the international community to merely urge the occupying power to allow food and medical assistance access, as these are fundamental rights recognized by international law.

Oman encouraged international institutions to intensify their efforts to resolve this long-standing humanitarian crisis, urging for a more proactive approach to uphold Palestinian rights and bring an end to the ongoing tragedy in Gaza.

Oman has taken a firm stance at the Human Rights Council, criticizing the inadequate response to the humanitarian crisis in Gaza. The nation underscores the need for unconditional withdrawal of occupying forces and highlights the necessity of recognizing Palestinian rights. The call for intensified international efforts marks an essential step toward addressing the injustices faced by the Palestinian people.
