Mohammed Takala, a contender for the Head of the High Council of State (HCS), has commenced a two-day visit to Mauritania. The government of Nouakchott stated that this visit aims to bolster the bilateral relations between Libya and Mauritania.
During his visit, Takala was welcomed by Mohamed Ould Meguett, the President of the Mauritanian National Assembly. They discussed various matters concerning bilateral relations, particularly in the parliamentary domain, and emphasized the need to enhance the functionality of the Maghreb Union, which is deemed crucial for the region’s advancement.
Ould Meguett conducted a comprehensive meeting with the HCS delegation, attended by various legislative representatives. In his statements, he remarked that the relations between Mauritania and Libya have yielded significant benefits, reinforcing their importance in the collective Maghreb effort to tackle regional challenges. He urged Maghreb nations to collaborate and address the issues impeding the progress of the Maghreb Union.
The HCS has been divided into factions led by Takala and Khalid Al-Mishri for the past seven months, following the initial electoral sessions characterized by conflicting judicial rulings favoring both candidates for the presidency.
