India criticized Pakistan for spreading misinformation about Jammu and Kashmir, labeling it a “failed state” reliant on international aid. India’s Permanent Mission representative, Kshitij Tyagi, condemned Pakistan’s misuse of global forums for anti-India rhetoric and defended Jammu and Kashmir’s status as an integral part of India. He emphasized significant progress in the region and pointed out Pakistan’s own human rights issues.
On Thursday, India’s Permanent Mission to the United Nations in Geneva, represented by Kshitij Tyagi, condemned Pakistan for its ongoing dissemination of misinformation regarding the Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir. Tyagi characterized Pakistan as a “failed state” reliant on international aid and accused its leadership of perpetuating military-driven falsehoods.
Tyagi’s remarks were provoked by allegations from Pakistani Law Minister Azam Nazeer Tarar concerning human rights violations in Jammu and Kashmir. He criticized Pakistan for misusing international forums to propagate anti-India sentiments while neglecting its internal issues.
“Pakistan is making a mockery of the OIC by abusing it as its mouthpiece,” Tyagi stated. “It is unfortunate that this Council’s time continues to be wasted by a failed state which thrives on instability and survives on international handouts.” He emphasized India’s commitment to democracy and progress while suggesting Pakistan could benefit from adopting similar values.
Reaffirming India’s stance, Tyagi asserted that Jammu and Kashmir, alongside Ladakh, are integral parts of India. He highlighted the significant advancements in political, social, and economic stability in these regions, contrasting sharply with Pakistan’s claims of unrest.
In addressing Pakistan’s stance on human rights, Tyagi remarked, “As a country where human rights abuses and persecution of minorities constitute state policies, Pakistan is in no position to lecture anyone.” He pointed out Pakistan’s lack of credibility in discussing human rights, given its history.
“Instead of its unhealthy obsession with India, Pakistan should focus on providing actual governance and justice to its own people,” he further noted. Echoing these sentiments, India’s Permanent Representative to the UN, Ambassador P. Harish, reinforced that Jammu and Kashmir is, and will always be, an integral part of India during an Open Debate at the UNSC.
India’s response underscores a strong rejection of Pakistan’s claims regarding Jammu and Kashmir, characterizing the latter as a state that exploits international platforms while neglecting governance issues at home.
